Year 10/11 GCSE (Two Year Course):

Edexcel GCSE Business (9-1) Developing Enterprising Minds:

This is a two year course focusing on both the theoretical and practical aspects of establishing and running a business. The qualification is assessed through two equally weighted exam papers. GCSE Business Studies allows students to understand the external influences that dictate whether a business succeeds or fails, such as, political, economic, financial or environmental issues. Students are encouraged to look beyond the classroom, putting themselves in the shoes of an entrepreneur looking for the next big business opportunity.

Unit 1 (Topics covered in Year 10) – Investigating Small Businesses (50%): Topics such as enterprise and entrepreneurship, spotting a business opportunity, putting a business idea into practice, making the business effective, and understanding external influences on business.

Unit 2 (Topics covered in Year 11) – Building A Business (50%): Topics such as growing the business, making marketing, operational, financial and human resource decisions.

Assessment: Assessment takes place through practice exam tasks and essays set in class and for homework. Grades and targets for assessments should be recorded on the student’s record sheet, in the front of their exercise book. Public examination of this unit will take place in the summer term of Year 10/11.
