Key Stage 3

Intent:

Our mission, here at Brayton Academy is to capture minds and create curiosity amongst our students to become honourable and purposeful global citizens in an ever-increasing multicultural society. All students in KS3 have the opportunity to study French. By developing characters, we give our students the opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills, become resilient and be creative thinkers.  Offering French as a main language gives our students the opportunity to develop and practise their knowledge of the language which will give them the correct tools as they enter Key Stage 4.

Students receive two lessons per week. The course focusses on opening the window to the French speaking world covering a variety of topics: basic sentences, clothes, environment, family, food and drink, house and home, healthy lifestyle, hobbies, holidays, jobs, personality, relationships, school, social issues, technology, town. In addition, students learn how to form and apply grammatical structures.

Students will work on a wide range of skills: dictation, listening, reading, speaking, translation and writing using authentic materials. They will develop their understanding of the language and be able to develop a skill for life.

Key Stage 4

Intent:

To secure and develop the deep-rooted passion learnt at Key Stage 3 by encouraging further studying at A level and beyond. Whether it is through independent study or a classroom environment, our aim is to stimulate, develop and strengthen a sound understanding of reading texts which have a wide range of higher level vocabulary, listen to conversations, write clearly, accurately and coherently and speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity by expressing opinions, facts and ideas.

With 29 countries speaking French as the official language, embedding the belief that life with another language enriches and broadens horizons. In addition, France is the fifth biggest economy and the top three locations for foreign investments, some of the top universities are residing in France. Learning how to speak French opens the doors to French companies in not only France, but other French-speaking parts of the world such as Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, and North and sub-Saharan Africa. Our students will be able to see the benefits of learning this language and also explore the vast opportunities in the workplace that are available at home and throughout the world: Media (Journalism) and Film industry, Tourism and travel services,  Industry including Airlines and Hotels, Banks and Insurance companies, local, state and federal government, International non-profit organisations, Publishing companies, Department of Defence and International Embassies, Representatives of Foreign Companies, Health Services, Social services, Immigration services, Elementary, high schools, Universities, and colleges. Companies are in need of Game Translators!
